wwwYour website is just as important today as a brick and mortar storefront design was years ago. Your home page is the “window” into your business, and it really needs to make a good impression so that the visitor is willing to learn more about your site and your products or services. This means that the website design needs to be on point. If your site is lacking, it might be because you aren’t following one of the following tips for good design.

Poor Aesthetic Choices

If you didn’t use the services of a professional website designer or a Digital Agency, there is a chance that the choices you made with the design and layout, as well as the colors, are a bit … off. It might look great to you, but that’s because you but you may not be familiar with web design best practices. Customers though, want to have a site that looks and “feels” right when they visit. This means it needs to have a layout that’s easy to understand, and navigation that is easy to follow.

Too Much on the Screen

It’s tempting to throw everything onto your webpages, but this can make them look crowded and difficult to read. It can be overwhelming for a visitor to come to your site to face a wall of text on each page. Give them some room. Open up the paragraphs and make sure the spacing is right. Don’t have too much going on with each page or it will be distracting.

Use Better Images

You probably know that having photos on your site can be a great way to get people to stay and explore your content. However, the photos need to be high quality. Having pictures that you took with a phone from 2007 probably won’t look as good as some professional photos! Stock images are a good alternative. iStockPhoto.com and Fotolia.com are a couple of popular resources.

 Poor Placement

How many time have we been on a website where we had to jump several hoops to be able to get to the contact information. How many time have we navigated away from a website because we couldn’t find the information we need – quickly. A website have to be designed keeping in mind the usability of the visitor. A perfect example would be a restaurant website no having a phone number on the menu page. Another example would be website not having ”call to action” in strategic locations.
